All Saints Day, Broomball

Hello Holy Family Young Adults,
This Friday, November 2nd, the Diocesan Catholic Young Adults will once again be hitting the ice to take on the TU Newman Center kids at a game of broomball. After a handful of losses, we finally chalked up our first win at our last match (thanks for HFC's very own Tony Kay). It's time for a repeat.
If you've never played broomball, you are in for a treat. It's a lot like hockey, without the pads, helmets, skates, grace or coordination, at least the way we play anyway. Teams are co-ed, and no experience is necessary.
We'll start at 10:30pm this Friday evening. Please try to get there 10 or so minutes early so we can get an idea of the numbers before we hit the ice. The rink is at the Oilers Ice Arena at 6413 S. Mingo. Cost to play is $10. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Also, just a reminder that this Thursday, November 1 is All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation, so be sure to get to Mass at some during the day. The Cathedral services will be at 7:00am, 9:00am, 12:05pm, & 5:05pm. If you can't make any of the daytime services, the Newman Center (440 S. Florence Ave on the TU campus) will also have a Mass at 9:05pm.
Happy Halloween!

Coming Up Soon

We've got a couple of big events coming up with the Catholic Young Adults.
First, this weekend is our Theology on Tap cookout with the Bishop (also known as the Bish Bash). A few weeks ago I mentioned that it was this Saturday, but if you attended TOT last week, you'll know that date has been changed. It's this Friday, the 21st, out on the patio of the Diocese's Chancery (12300 E. 91st St. S. in Broken Arrow). We'll get things started at 6:00pm, but it's come and go as you please, so come when you can. We're also looking to set up a tv so those who are interested can watch the TU-OU game while we eat. Let me know if you need directions or have any questions. The cookout is free.
Second, our annual golf tournament is on Saturday, Oct 6th. It's a 4 player scramble/best ball contest, followed by lunch at McNellies. This year's tournament will be in Owasso. If you'd like to play or would like more information, contact Niki Lisk at nlisk@enoserv.com.
Hope to see you this weekend!

Subject: Catholic Young Adults - Sept. 15th Service Project
OK group. We're set up to do a project at the Hispanic Helping Center, 2436 E Admiral, on the 15th at 9am.
They currently have a small food pantry which they want to expand by moving to a larger room and rearranging some stuff to create some office space. We will be moving furniture, building shelves in one room and tearing out shelves in the current food pantry. If we have time we will also paint where the current food pantry is, which will become an office. They will provide all shelf building materials and shelf design plans, I will get the shelf plans in advance. We need to bring tools for building shelves and painting. For those who don't like to build, there will be plenty of work to do. I think we can keep 15 people working on this project. I figure we can order pizza or something for lunch.

August Events

Hello Holy Family Young Adults,
Next week, Tuesday, August 14th, will be our 4th Theology on Tap of the season. The speaker will be Holy Family's very own Msgr Gregory Gier, who will be speaking on the history of the Eucharist. We'll be out at McNellies Public House (1st and Elgin) from 7-9, with the speaker starting at 8:00pm.
We also have tentative plans for a social gathering with Msgr. Gier on Friday, August 24th at 6:30, location TBA. This will be a meet and greet for people in the cathedral parish to get to know our pastor and each other . More details on this to come.
And finally, if you enjoy sand volleyball or want to learn how to play, the diocesan group meets every Monday night at the outdoor courts at Helmerich Park (71st and Riverside). These are informal pick up games, and we sometimes join up with other groups for some friendly competition. If you have trouble finding us out there, our group is usually on one of the northern most courts, and we often have a dog or two leashed on the sidelines.
If you have any ideas for activities for the cathedral young adult crowd, please let me or Mike Malcom know (mike.holyfam@juno.com). We'd be happy to hear from you.
Have a good week,
Peter Klein

We'll meet at 7:00 on Friday, August 24. Location TBA. Any suggestions?

Also, Msgr. Gier will be speaking at Theology on Tap on August 14 at McNellie's.
